In-cisões-forma, Maia 2017

In-cisões-forma is art intervention in an existing Grain Silo Building in Maia that demands to reinforce the important identity of an apparently banal territory, situated between the urban and the rural.

Three large scale mirrored elements occupy the interstitial space between the four silos facing west, seeking to evidence their functional autonomy, by the suggestion of visual separation of the convex volumes that define them. The formal proposal rebuts the curvature of the building's surface through convex planes that reflect a distorted and concentrated reality, a virtual image that represents the surrounding sky and ground in the same curved plane and that, at the same time, simulates an impossible visual crossing of the built volumetry, shaping new geometries.

The distance between these mirror-planes and the concrete volumes that define the silos seeks to achieve a three-dimensional formalization, capable of projecting the wandering of shadows during the day, while favouring the possibility of backlighting, which was intended to be monochromatic, at night. Constructively, the aluminium allows the construction of a finished surface, in a single material, which only assumes the dry joint in the subdivisions of the total piece and, at the same time, the execution of a lighter (vertical) bridge-structure.
